Description

Unfortunately, the HA example doesn’t match the given architecture diagram and it’s very confusing.

https://www.strongswan.org/testing/testresults/ha/both-active/

1. The paragraph mentions a Mars gateway, which is not reflected in the diagram.
2. The paragraph also speaks of two gateways alice and moon. But in the graph alice is shown as a Client instead of a gateway.
3. The configuration examples for the Mars gateway are also completely missing. It’s not clear how to setup this virtual environment.
4. There is also a TCP dump of venus, who’s role isn’t clear at all.

I believe the entire diagram is misplaced and it makes it really difficult to follow.

This example should have explained two active nodes working in collaboration and sharing the load.
Is there any chance to get this fixed?

Many Thanks,

The diagram is just the generic diagram used by lots of other test cases that involve the same group of hosts.

1. The paragraph mentions a Mars gateway, which is not reflected in the diagram.

It mentions a virtual gateway mars that's implemented by the real gateways alice and moon that are part of the diagram.

2. The paragraph also speaks of two gateways alice and moon. But in the graph alice is shown as a Client instead of a gateway.

Yes, the network config is changed at the start of the test case (see the console.log file).

3. The configuration examples for the Mars gateway are also completely missing. It’s not clear how to setup this virtual environment.

Because there is no such gateway. The configs for alice and moon make up the config of the virtual gateway mars.

4. There is also a TCP dump of venus, who’s role isn’t clear at all.

I guess we could add a sentence about how the functionality of the final setup is checked (by pinging venus from carol and dave) as is done in some other test cases. But you also see this in the console.log and the tcpdump output.

Thanks, Tobias.

It is still very hard to follow the necessary steps to make two StrongSwan VPNs to collaborate and share the load. I wished there was a step by step tutorial, how to set this up. There is nothing to google for this, unfortunately.

HighAvailability is somewhat structured like a how-to (combined with the console.log of the test scenarios).
